Codex for (Almost) Everything

OpenAI is expanding Codex from a coding assistant into a broader work partner that can help across much more of the software development process.

The update adds features like operating your computer alongside you, using more apps and plugins, browsing the web inside the app, generating images, connecting to remote development environments, and handling tasks like PR reviews and file previews in one workspace.

It also introduces stronger long-term assistance, including memory, reusing past conversation context, scheduling future work, and suggesting next steps based on your projects and connected tools.

OpenAI presents these changes as a way to help developers move more smoothly between writing code, reviewing outputs, debugging, coordinating with teammates, and keeping ongoing work moving.

The rollout starts with signed-in Codex desktop app users, while some personalization and computer use features are coming later to additional regions and account types.
