Perplexity Monthly Revenue Jumps 50% in Pivot From Search to AI Agents

Perplexity’s recent growth appears tied to a shift away from being mainly an AI search tool and toward building AI agents that can handle tasks for users.

The company’s revenue rose 50% in the last month, pushing its annual recurring revenue above $450 million in March, while its search and agent products now reach more than 100 million monthly active users, including enterprise customers paying subscription fees.

Perplexity is still much smaller than some other fast-growing AI companies, but the change suggests there is strong demand for tools that do more than answer questions and instead help with real-world tasks like planning, research, and personal organization.

As one example of that strategy, Perplexity has introduced a tax-focused agent designed to use current IRS materials and updated rules, aiming to be more reliable than general chatbots on complex tax questions.
