Spotify is testing a new AI-powered feature called “Prompted Playlists,” currently in beta for Premium users in New Zealand, that lets listeners type natural-language prompts to generate highly personalized playlists based on their entire listening history. Unlike earlier AI playlist tools, this one can interpret longer, more detailed instructions (e.g., mood, activity, genres, time periods) and even factor in world knowledge to tailor the playlist. Users can also choose how often the playlist refreshes (daily or weekly) and see explanations for why songs were selected. Spotify says the goal is to let listeners “steer the algorithm” and reshape music discovery on the platform.
