Google is adding an image verification tool to the Gemini app that lets people upload a picture and ask whether it was created or altered with the company’s AI. The system checks for a built-in digital watermark called SynthID, which Google invisibly embeds into images produced by its models so they can be identified later. The app explains whether the watermark is present and offers context about how the image might have been generated. Google plans to expand this approach to video, audio and metadata standards so users can more easily confirm the origins of digital content. The move is part of a broader push to improve transparency and help people distinguish between real and AI-created media
