Google has updated its Translate app to include a real-time speech translation feature that streams live translated audio directly to your headphones, turning nearly any pair of Bluetooth or wired headphones into a one-way translation device when paired with the Translate app. Users can open the app, tap “Live translate,” and hear speech from someone speaking another language in their chosen language almost instantly, with the system preserving tone, emphasis, and cadence to make conversations, lectures, or media easier to follow. The beta feature is rolling out now on Android in the U.S., Mexico, and India with support for more than 70 languages, and Google plans to expand it to iOS and more countries in 2026. The update also brings smarter AI-powered text translation that better handles slang, idioms, and nuanced meanings, and enhances language-learning tools within the app.
