Google has removed some of its AI-generated health summaries (called AI Overviews) from search results after an investigation found that they provided false or misleading medical information that could potentially put people at risk. The issue came to light when AI Overviews for queries like “what is the normal range for liver blood tests” failed to include key context such as age, sex, ethnicity or nationality, meaning seriously ill users could mistakenly think their results were normal and skip needed follow-ups. In response, Google said it doesn’t comment on specific removals but works to improve the overall quality of its AI summaries and noted that in many cases the information was supported by high-quality sources. Health experts welcomed the decision but warned that misleading AI health content could still appear for similar searches and that caution is still needed when using AI for medical information
