Kapwing’s AI Slop Report reveals that a large portion of YouTube content now consists of “AI slop” and “brainrot” videos, which are low-quality, AI-generated clips designed to farm views, subscribers, and ad revenue rather than provide meaningful content. According to the research, about 21–33 % of videos in a new user’s YouTube Shorts feed fall into these categories, and trending channels with mostly AI slop have billions of views and millions of subscribers globally, with some earning millions in ad revenue. The analysis highlights that countries like Spain, South Korea, India, and the U.S. have especially high engagement with these slop channels, underlining how algorithm-driven platforms can amplify mass-produced, low-effort AI videos and challenge traditional content creators.
