Expedia Highlights Persistent “AI Travel Trust Gap” in New Global Study

A fresh Expedia Group study of more than 5,700 adults across the US, UK and India finds only 8 percent of travelers currently trust AI to book trips, while 59 percent still lean on traditional search engines for planning.

Yet almost 40 percent already use AI to research and plan, and a majority are comfortable with AI suggesting options, monitoring prices and building itineraries — so long as humans retain final control.

The report frames the near term as a hybrid era in which AI powers inspiration and orchestration while human and brand trust anchor the conversion moment.

Impact on Travel & Hospitality

Design AI offerings as co-pilots, with transparent controls, brand-led reassurance and easy human escalation to close the current trust gap and unlock higher direct conversion.
