Los Angeles County has sued Roblox, saying the platform misleads parents about safety while exposing children to predators, grooming, and sexually explicit content, and it is the first California government body to take the company to court over child safety. The complaint argues Roblox chose growth and profit over protections, noting that until November 2024 adults could message and befriend children easily, and that weak, self reported age controls let predators pose as kids. It also questions Roblox’s newer age checks that rely on the vendor Persona, raising concerns about how much data the system can collect and keep. The lawsuit adds to a growing wave of private cases and state actions, and LA County is seeking daily civil penalties and court ordered changes to how Roblox operates.
