OpenAI has introduced GPT-5.3-Codex, the most capable version of its Codex coding agent to date, combining advanced coding performance with stronger general reasoning and professional knowledge capabilities. It runs about 25 % faster than the prior Codex model and can handle long-running tasks involving research, tool use, and complex execution, effectively acting like an agent that can write, debug, test, deploy, and monitor software, as well as assist with broader professional workflows. The model sets new state-of-the-art results on key benchmarks for software engineering and agentic computer use and is designed to let users interact and steer it in real time while it works. Notably, early versions of GPT-5.3-Codex were used by the OpenAI team during its own development for debugging, deployment, and evaluation. It’s available today across paid ChatGPT plans in the Codex app, IDE extensions, CLI, and web, with API access planned in the future.
